Mobile Lead Glass Shield Wall

In 2026, NPO designed and fabricated a new product for Dominion Energy, Millstone Power Station in Connecticut. The Mobile Lead Glass Shield Wall (pictured below) is 36” X 36”, with a 1.5” thick Lead Glass viewing panel and a 0.31” thick solid lead panel on the bottom. This custom Mobile Lead Glass Shield Wall was designed with push/pull handles and lockable swivel casters, allowing workers to easily and safely move the shield wall around.

The Lead glass is not temperature dependent, which is especially beneficial for nuclear plants and laboratories in colder climates. The lead glass feature allowed Millstone workers to observe critical work being performed while remaining in a lower dose rate area. Millstone was able to reduce exposure for the Maintenance team and Radiation Protection technicians. The Maintenance team were able to stand behind the wall during a crane lift of a radioactive component and clearly see to safely perform the lift while decreasing exposure. The Radiation Protection technicians performed surveys behind the wall using telescoping instrumentation.
