As Dry Fuel Campaign preparation is ongoing at many sites, we would like to share a successful campaign story. In 2025, the NPO Team designed and fabricated custom Dry Cask T-Flex lid shielding for St. Lucie. The custom design, shown below, consisted of a 41-piece T-Flex Boron and Bismuth shielding with integrated stainless-steel handles. This design enabled St. Lucie to improve their shielding installation and removal time, lowered personnel exposure, and lower radiological risk.
Tom, an RP Supervisor at St. Lucie provided the following feedback “We are 6 weeks into our ISFSI campaign, and the shielding package has been extremely effective. It is impressive stuff. We can install it in less than 5 minutes and remove it even quicker.”.
